Tree stump removal can be a difficult and physical task if you don’t use the right technique to get rid of it. Before you go out there, and try to remove it without a plan there are a few things you need to take into consideration.
The first thing you need to consider before tree stump removal is the size and type of the stump. For example, some trees have deep roots that make it extremely difficult to remove. Other trees have flat roots that are easier to get rid of. Here are a few methods for tree stump removal and my thoughts on which method works the best depending on the stump.
Chemical Tree Stump Removal
The first option for tree stump removal for mid to large size stumps are chemicals. The first thing you need to do is drill 12 inch deep holes on top of the stump with a drill and 1/2 spade inch drill bit; drill the wholes about 4 inches away from the edge of the stump. After you have created the wholes place the stump remover chemical and water in them, which you can find at most garden centers, and it will rotten the stamp in about 4 to 6 weeks. After the stump is completely rotten you can remove it with an ax easily.
Hand Digging Tree Stump Removal
The second option is hand digging. This is a great way to remove a small stamp because all you have to do is use a shovel and dig around the stump until you expose the roots. Once the roots are exposed cut them with a root saw and pull them out. If you only need to get rid of one small stamp this is can be an easy job. However, if you need to remove a few make sure you take breaks between tree stumps, you don’t want to injure yourself while using a shovel or root remover because you are tired; remember safety first.
Stump Grinder Tree Stump Removal
The third option and most effective way to remove mid size to large stumps is a stump grinder. This machine will eat a stump in a few minutes making the job very easy. However, if machinery is not your thing you can consider using the stump removal chemical or you can hire a gardener to remove it for you. A gardener will usually charge you on a per inch stump basis. You can get a hold of one of this machines at a rental house, so if you need to remove a few stumps this is the most cost effective way to do it.
Remember, that before a tree stump removal safety comes first. Make sure you wear eye protection and gloves at all times and read the instruction manual of any equipment you are going to use to have a full understanding of how it works.
